Salcombe Unveils Its Crowdsourced Gin to Raise Funds for the Nhs

Named Nightingale by the public, the gin has already raised over £2,500 for the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 appeal

Gin fans joined Salcombe master distiller Jason Nickels live on Instagram on the evening of Thursday 9 April to create what it is claiming is the world’s first crowdsourced gin.

During the event, Nickels talked through the distillation process and asked viewers to choose the botanicals and the name of the new gin, resulting in Nightingale, a 44% ABV gin made with Macedonian juniper, English coriander seed, and orris root. The public chose to add a further eight botanicals, including hibiscus, angelica root, cinnamon, and seaweed.

The distiller has produced 100 50cl bottles of Nightingale, which sold out within 24-hours of pre-ordering opening. All of the proceeds will be donated to the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal.

‘It was really uplifting to engage with the public during these times of isolation via Instagram Live,’ Nickels said.

‘The community really got involved in the process and we had fun creating a great-tasting limited-edition gin, which we’re proud to add to the Salcombe Gin portfolio.’
