Oskar Blues Is Being Sued by Guns N’ Roses

The Canarchy Craft Brewery Collective is being sued by Guns N’ Roses for trademark infringement over Oskar Blues’ Guns ‘N’ Rosé, a hibiscus pale ale. Guns N’ Roses filed the lawsuit in California federal court on May 9, 2019, the Drinks Business reports.

According to the filing, Canarchy/Oskar Blues applied to trademark the beer but dropped the application after the band objected. The brewing company is allegedly still selling the beer, as well as Guns ‘N’ Rosé-branded merchandise, including bandanas (an Axl Rose staple).

As the Takeout reported, hair metal bands including Metallica, AC/DC, the Deftones, Anthrax, and Iron Maiden have produced beers in partnership with breweries, so the Guns N’ Roses lift is indeed potentially confusing to consumers, and therefore a misrepresentation of the band. It’s a jungle out there.
