Start-up company Muhu will release a sweet hibiscus-flavored gin infused with the cannabidiol (CBD) – the non-psychoactive component found in hemp and cannabis. Company founder Sally Wynter said the launch is aimed at millennials and younger drinkers.
‘I looked at the spirits market and despite gin acting as a catalyst for experimentation with flavors and color, we haven’t really seen anything truly innovative,’ said Wynter. ‘Muhu is looking to branch away from the traditional, provenance-driven brands.’
The hemp-derived CBD is imported from Canada, the company said, where it is grown without pesticides and ‘in line with organic regulations’.
‘CBD is something I’ve been adding to my cocktails for the past year,’ Wynter noted. ‘Personally, I feel more relaxed mentally but also in my body and muscles. I even use CBD capsules the next morning to take the edge off the hangover.’
The company said it’s also looking to release a range of spirits over the next few years, all featuring ‘an infusion with natural trending products’.
Muhu joins CBD-infused gin from Top Beverages as well as CBD rums from both Top Beverages and Halewood Wines & Spirits.
